Haptic Interface for Handshake Emulation

DESCRIPTION

The telecommunication methods have changed a lot over time. From mail to video calls, these different means gradually looked to grant an experience closer to the face-to-face one by engaging different senses. Among them, the sense of touch is not, or rarely used. A haptic interface is used to transmit information through tactile means (e.g. a vibrating cellphone). The goal of this project is to develop such an interface to simulate a handshake. A robotic arm and hand make this interface. When it is used, its behavior tries to emulate that of a human being. To this end, the interface must be able to convey its intent, its “personality”, to the user, but also to reach a harmony with the latter.
